10 Hourly / 1 Daily Hoist and Brake Hydraulic Tank Maintenance
Warning: This maintenance check requires trained personnel with PPE!
Oil level checked with cold oil and the engine stopped
Oil level checked with warm oil and the engine running
Type of oil used
Hoist and brake hydraulic tank breather checked for plugging
Is oil flowing from the filter?
If oil is flowing from the filter, the hoist and brake hydraulic tank may be overfilled
Hoist and brake cooling oil returns to the hydraulic tank through a screen located below cover
Diverter (towing) valve checked
10 Hourly / 1 Daily Truck Inspection
Brakes: Check operation
Indicators and gauges: Test operation
Seat belt: Inspect
Back-up alarm: Test operation
Secondary steering: Test operation
Accelerate the engine until the truck moves. The truck must not move below 1200 rpm.
This procedure should be repeated for each brake lever or pedal.
See the Operation and Maintenance Manual for more information on the remaining tests performed in the cab.
Sign off on the truck inspection
10 Hourly / 1 Daily Brake Master Cylinders Maintenance
Located near the air filters and the steering tank are the front and rear brake cylinders (1) and the brake oil makeup tank (2).
Inspect the condition of the breathers (3) for the brake cylinders.
Oil leaking from the breathers?
Oil leaking from the breathers is an indication that the oil piston seals in the brake cylinder need replacement.
Air flow from the breathers during a brake application?
Air flow from the breathers during a brake application is an indication that the brake cylinder air piston seals need replacement.
Is there air in the system or a loss of oil downstream from the cylinders?
If air is in the system or a loss of oil downstream from the cylinders occurs, the piston in the cylinder will overstroke and cause an indicator rod to extend and open the brake overstroke switch (4).
Did an overstroke condition occur?
10 Hourly / 1 Daily Fuel Tank Maintenance
Fuel tank is located on the left side of the truck
Fuel level sight gauge (1) functional during walk around inspection
Fuel level reading from the fuel level sender
The percentage of sulfur in the fuel will affect the engine oil recommendations
Select the type of oil used based on fuel sulfur
Fuel sulfur value
New oil TBN
When 10 times the fuel sulfur exceeds the oil TBN, reduce the oil change interval to about 1/2 the normal change interval
Drain valve (2) opened to remove condensation from the fuel tank
10 Hourly / 1 Daily Transmission and Torque Converter Maintenance
Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!
Sight gauges (1) present and functional?
Enter the current oil level in the sight gauges
Fill tube (2) present and functional?
Fill the sump with oil to the top of the upper sight gauge
Crank the engine for approximately 15 seconds
Enter the decreased oil level after cranking the engine
If the engine starts, do not allow it to run for more than 15 seconds
Add more oil to the sump to raise the oil level to the FULL COLD mark
