250 Hourly / 6 Monthly Engine Crankcase Breather Cleaning
NOTICE: Perform this maintenance with the engine stopped.
NOTICE: If the crankcase breather is not maintained on a regular basis, it can become plugged. A plugged breather will cause excessive crankcase pressure that may cause crankshaft seal leakage.
Loosen hose clamp (2) and remove the hose from breather assembly (3)
Loosen the retaining clamp. Remove the breather assembly (3) and the seal.
Wash the breather element in solvent that is clean and nonflammable. Allow the breather element to dry before installation.
Install a breather element that is clean and dry. Install breather assembly and seal (3) and install the retaining clamp. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the proper torques.
Install the hose. Install hose clamp (2). For proper torque, refer to the Specifications Manual, SENR3130, “Torque Specifications”.

Reduce the maintenance intervals for engines that operate under conditions that are severe.

Is the service indicator mounted on the air cleaner housing or in a remote location?
Is the yellow diaphragm in the red zone?
Is the red piston locked in the visible position?

250 Hourly / 6 Monthly Fuel System Primary Filter Maintenance
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
NOTICE: Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over any disconnected fuel system components.
For more information on the maintenance of the primary fuel filter, refer to the literature that is provided by the OEM of the vehicle, or refer to the literature that is provided by the OEM of the primary fuel filter.
Turned the start switch off?

Fitted a suitable cover over any disconnected fuel system components?

Engine Inspection
Warning: Ensure that no one is on, underneath, or close to the engine before starting.
All protective guards and covers must be installed if the engine must be started to perform service procedures.
Do not bypass or disable the automatic shutoff circuits.
Prepare to stop the engine if an overspeed condition occurs on initial start-up.
Perform the required daily maintenance and other periodic maintenance before you start the engine.
Inspect the engine compartment for potential hazards.
Inspect for oil leaks, coolant leaks, loose bolts, and trash buildup.
Inspect the cooling system hoses for cracks and for loose clamps.
Inspect the alternator and accessory drive belts for cracks, breaks, and other damage.
