Water and Gas Piping Inspection

Inspect all water and gas piping for leaks and verify proper support

Verify that all fittings and components on the unit are leak-free

WARNING: Eliminate all system water leaks

Describe any water leaks found and actions taken to eliminate them

WARNING: Continual fresh make-up water will reduce the heat exchanger life causing boiler failure

WARNING: Leaking water may cause severe property damage to the surrounding area

WARNING: Inspect the gas supply piping using the procedure outlined in Section 11.3.4 on page 60

Inspect the ignition cable from the ignitor to the spark generator for damage or wear.

Ensure the ignition cable is securely connected.

Inspect the ground wire from the ignitor to the CTRLMax control module for damage or wear.

Ensure the ground wire is securely connected.

Inspect the wiring between the spark generator and the CTRLMax Control module for damage or wear.

Ensure the wiring is securely connected.

Ensure discharge piping is directed to a suitable place of disposal

Verify discharge piping is full size without restriction

Confirm discharge piping allows complete drainage of both the valve and line

Inspect the relief valve for any visible damage

Lift the lever to verify flow through the valve

Did the valve seat properly after closing?

Loosen the retaining nut from the condensate drain assembly and disconnect the assembly from the boiler.

Empty any water from the trap and flush with fresh water as necessary to clean.

Remove plastic ball and clean with fresh water.

Check the drain piping from the condensate drain assembly to the drain. Flush to clean as necessary.

Install the plastic ball into the condensate drain assembly.

Reassemble onto the boiler by tightening the retaining nut with rubber seal onto the boiler. Hand tight only.

Manually place the boiler into high fire

Navigate to the Boiler Information Menu

Record the flue gas temperature

Record the supply water temperature

Is the flue gas temperature more than 54°F [30°C] above the supply water temperature?

If temperature difference is too high

Follow the heat exchanger cleaning procedure
