Shut off gas supply to the heater

Remove outer cover plate from lower side of heater jacket

Remove six hex head screws securing tank cleanout plate

Remove lime, scale, or sediment carefully to avoid damaging glass lining

Verify damper operation with water operating controls

Troubleshooting Damper Operation Issues

Is there a problem with the water heater operation in AUTOMATIC OPERATION position?

Does the water heater operate in HOLD OPEN DAMPER position?

Refer to EFFIKAL RVGP-FSF-SERIES TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE if the water heater operates in HOLD OPEN DAMPER position

Refer to Troubleshooting Sections and Operational Checklist if the water heater does not operate in either position

Ensure damper disc is not forced manually to avoid motor damage

Unfasten two screws to burner cover and remove it.

Locate the burner with pilot and remove screw holding burner to manifold.

Unfasten pilot tubing from valve and slide out burner and pilot.

Clean the orifice of the pilot burner.

Ensure water heater is turned off and cooled down

Gather necessary tools and safety equipment

Measure the depth of lime buildup in the heater

Record the depth of lime buildup in inches

Select the lime accumulation level after 6 months

Determine and describe the deliming schedule based on lime accumulation

Close cold water inlet valve serving heater

Open nearby hot water faucet to relieve pressure in the heater

Check the condition of the anode rods

Is the 1/8” (3mm) diameter core wire visible?

Replace anode rods if core wire is visible

If applicable, ensure you have the following new parts before reassembly
