Crankshaft Dimensional Check
Crankshaft cleaned thoroughly with a suitable detergent
Pipe cleaner used to remove residual dirt from lubrication ducts
Compressed air jet used to clean the oil passages
Surfaces of the main journals and crank-pins checked for wear limit
Half-bearings installed on the semi-crankcases, without crankshaft, and semi-crankcases coupled by tightening the fixing screws
Diameter of the crank-pins and main journals measured with a micrometer
Internal diameter of the connecting rod and crankshaft half-bearings measured with a dial gauge
Contact surfaces lubricated with oil to prevent oxidation
Crankshaft and connecting rod half-bearings replaced every time they are disassembled
Crankshaft Axial Clearance Check
Assemble the shaft in the crankcase
Measure the axial shift of the crankshaft with a dial gauge
Does the axial shift range between 0.18-0.38mm (0.007-0.015in)?
If the value is more than or less than the specified range, replace the shoulder rings?

Main bearing caps removed if pistons and connecting rods have not been removed
Sign off on the crankshaft removal
Bedplate Installation
Before Installation
Clean off all traces of the old sealant compound from the crankcase and bedplate mating faces.
Use a suitable degreasing agent to carefully clean the main bearing saddles in the bedplate and crankcase.
Ensure all necessary tools, bolts etc. are readily available prior to assembling the components.
Ensure that the upper main bearing shells are flush with the bottom face of the crankcase.
Install
Ensure that all items are clean and free from damage and corrosion.
Use a suitable degreasing agent to clean both sides of the lower bearing shells.
Install the lower bearing shells into the bedplate.
