Hydrostatical Air Tank Inspection

Review Fig. 3-13 for recommended air tank inspection intervals

Refer to federal, state, provincial, or local codes for mandatory air tank maintenance information

Tank Wall Thickness Measurement

Measure tank wall thickness at the lowest point where condensation can accumulate

Measure tank wall thickness at several other locations

Record any observations or anomalies found during inspection

Ensure compressor is installed in a secure and upright position

Verify area is clean, dry, well-lighted, and adequately ventilated

Ensure sufficient space around the compressor for inspection and maintenance

Have the Pre-starting Checklist and Initial Starting & Operating sub-sections been read and understood?

Daily Inspection and Maintenance

Make a general overall inspection of the unit and correct any unsafe situations

Ensure all fasteners and fittings are tight

Check lubricant level in crankcase

Inspect compressor equipment for shipping damage

Record details of any damage found and carrier inspection demand

Document the process to file a claim for shipping damages

Ensure adequate lifting equipment is available

Follow safety procedures for moving the unit

Verification of Equipment Specifications

Verify compressor model and size on nameplate

Place a straightedge against the face of the flywheel, touching its rim at two places

Is the belt running parallel to the straightedge?

Adjust the motor pulley so that the belt runs parallel to the straightedge

Use a wheel puller to move the motor pulley on the shaft

Inspect for oil, grease, nicks, or burrs

Clean or replace components if necessary

Ensure components are securely fastened

Align compressor sheave(s) with motor pulley(s)

Check if drive belt grooves are in line with each other

Ensure compressor crankshaft is parallel to motor or engine drive shaft
