Vent Safety Switch Testing

Check mark

Service Procedure XIII — Vent Safety Switch Testing and Replacement

Check mark

Warnings

Check mark

Locate the harness connection and check continuity through the grey lead wires of the heater-side harness; call technical support if there is none.

Check mark

If continuity is present, depress the reset button on the high-limit switch and check for continuity across it, replacing the vent safety switch if there is none.

Check mark

Reset the heater and observe a heating cycle to confirm the switch does not reopen before 350°F is reached; replace the switch if it opens prematurely, and do not operate the heater if temperature exceeds 350°F without contacting technical support.

Check mark

Vent Safety Switch Replacement

Check mark

Turn the main power switch off, slide back the rubber escutcheon, and remove the service panel access cover.

Check mark

Disconnect the wire leads, remove the two mounting screws and nuts, and remove the switch.

Check mark

Install the new switch, reconnect the wire leads (interchangeable), restore power, confirm proper operation, and reinstall the cover and escutcheon.

Hot Surface Igniter Testing

Check mark

Service Procedure VII — Hot Surface Igniter Testing & Replacement

Check mark

Safety Warning

Check mark

Be aware of 120-volt potential exposure

Check mark

Ensure the igniter is cool before handling

Check mark

Igniter Cold Resistance Check

Check mark

Measure the igniter's cold resistance

Check mark

Is the igniter's cold resistance under 150 ohms?

Check mark

Replace the hot surface igniter if resistance is not under 150 ohms

Check mark

Ignition Module Voltage Check

Blower Testing

Check mark

Service Procedure V — Blower Testing & Replacement

Check mark

WARNING — 120-volt potential exposure; use caution making voltage checks.

Check mark

Confirm the blower energizes when the thermostat calls for heat

Check mark

Check for 120VAC across the terminal-block black and white wires

Check mark

Check for 120VAC at the ignition module/control board and blower wiring

Check mark

Repair or replace the harness or blower as indicated

Check mark

Check if the blower energizes but seems weak

Check mark

Measure amp draw on the black blower-motor lead

Check mark

Confirm the blower wheel is secure on the motor shaft

Run this procedureArrow right

Intake Pressure Switch Testing

Check mark

Service Procedure XII — Intake Pressure Testing (models prior to serial "CF" only)

Check mark

Check continuity through the normally closed intake pressure switch if the blower does not energize

Check mark

Refer to the vent safety switch, exhaust pressure switch, or blower testing procedures if the intake pressure switch is not faulty

Check mark

Check continuity through the switch if the purge LED does not illuminate within the expected time

Check mark

Confirm the inlet tube pressure tap reads at least -1.2 in. W.C. using a manometer

Check mark

Remove the hose from the intake pressure switch and restart the heater to see if the purge LED illuminates

Check mark

Isolate the heater from the intake vent system and restart again to isolate a switch versus vent-system fault

Check mark

Check whether the intake vent system is obstructed and clear any obstruction found

Check mark

Call technical support if no cause is found
