Capacitor Testing
Heed WARNING in Silicon Diode Testing section
Disconnect capacitor and connect leads of ohmmeter to capacitor terminals
Set ohmmeter to highest scale
Observe ohmmeter pointer deflection
Does the pointer deflect, indicating the capacitor is being charged?
Does the pointer deflect in the opposite direction, indicating partial discharge?
If there is no deflection, the capacitor is 'open' and must be replaced
If the meter needle moves and stops at one value, replace the capacitor
Charger Inspection
Electrical Connections Inspection
Check and tighten all electrical connections to eliminate unnecessary losses.
Inspect for broken wiring or damaged insulation on wiring.
Safety Precautions
Ensure all charger cabinet panels are replaced after servicing to assure proper cooling and protection of internal components.
Verify all cabinet panels are replaced to protect personnel from hazardous voltages.
Selicon Diode Testing
WARNING: ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD
Pre-Testing Safety Measures
Turn OFF and remove fuses of disconnect switch (supplying AC power to charger)
Disconnect battery
Check for voltage on capacitors
Is there any voltage reading on capacitors?
Discharge capacitors through insulated screwdriver if there is any reading
Diode Testing Procedure
Disconnect one diode lead to isolate diode from electrical circuitry
Charging Rate Adjustment
Pre-Adjustment Safety Checks
Ensure no bad connections or damage to charger is affecting the charging process.
Verify proper charging procedure has been followed.
Turn OFF and remove fuses of disconnect switch supplying AC power to charger.
Disconnect battery.
Check for voltage on capacitors.
Is there any voltage reading on capacitors?
Discharge capacitors through insulated screwdriver if there is any voltage reading.
Charging Rate Adjustment
3 Monthly Charger Cleaning
Preparation
Ensure the charger is turned off and unplugged
Cleaning Process
Select the cleaning method used
Wipe all dirt from the unit's interior components
