Use a filter wrench to remove old filter

Dispose of filter in approved manner

Ensure the gasket from the old filter is removed and discarded

Lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter

Screw the new filter on nipple until gasket meets the sealing surface

Tighten filter one-half turn farther using hands only

Drain the raw water from heat exchanger

Remove zinc holders from back of the tank, front, and port side of the heat exchanger

Scrape or steel brush the zinc electrode clean

Is more than 50% of the electrode eroded away?

CAUTION: The cooling water in the engine reaches extremely high temperatures. You must use extreme caution when working on hot engines to avoid burns. Allow the engine to cool before working on the cooling system. Open the filler cap carefully, using protective clothing when the engine is warm.

Ensure the engine is stopped and cold.

Remove the pressure cap from the expansion tank with caution.

Open the cooling system air vent on top of turbocharger, if applicable.

Open the drains on the exhaust manifold and engine block to drain the fresh water system.

Is the vessel equipped with keel cooling?

Remove the cooling water pipes between the heat exchanger and the water pump inlet

Disconnect hose to seawater pump

Unscrew the attaching bolts holding the heat exchanger to the expansion tank

Remove bolts holding heat exchanger cover

Were chemical agents used for cleaning?

Ensure all special tools are available

Remove dirt from cylinder head around fuel injection nozzles using compressed air

Plug the bore in the cylinder head after each fuel injection nozzle removal

Cap fuel line openings as soon as they are disconnected

Fit protective caps over nozzle tips and line connections

Ensure fuel delivery lines are not bent during removal

Loosen nuts to remove leak-off lines and T-fittings

Disconnect fuel injection line from nozzle
