Obtained the correct service parts

Assemble the shaft in the crankcase

Measure the axial shift of the crankshaft with a dial gauge

Does the axial shift range between 0.18-0.38mm (0.007-0.015in)?

If the value is more than or less than the specified range, replace the shoulder rings?

Sign off on the crankshaft axial clearance check

Check the main bearing surfaces for damage and excessive wear

Measure the crankshaft diameters to confirm they are within service limits

Check that the oilway cross drillings in the crankshaft are clear and free from debris

Check that the piston cooling oil sprayers are clear (if installed)

If the sprayers cannot be cleared, were they removed and discarded?

Obtained the correct service parts

Pistons and connecting rods removed or main bearing caps removed?

Crankshaft cleaned thoroughly with a suitable detergent

Pipe cleaner used to remove residual dirt from lubrication ducts

Compressed air jet used to clean the oil passages

Surfaces of the main journals and crank-pins checked for wear limit

Half-bearings installed on the semi-crankcases, without crankshaft, and semi-crankcases coupled by tightening the fixing screws

Diameter of the crank-pins and main journals measured with a micrometer

Internal diameter of the connecting rod and crankshaft half-bearings measured with a dial gauge

Contact surfaces lubricated with oil to prevent oxidation

Crankshaft and connecting rod half-bearings replaced every time they are disassembled
