Installation — Belt Driven Units

Adjust belt tension according to manufacturer's instructions

Is the belt tension sufficient to prevent slippage under load?

Is the belt tension excessive, potentially causing bearing concerns or shaft breakage?

Rotate the drive shaft by hand after piping is completed and before applying power

Does the drive shaft move with uniform freedom?

Check for potential issues if drive shaft does not move freely

Measure vibration at bearing locations

Is all pass vibration 0.45 in/sec-pk or less?

Is all pass vibration greater than 0.45 but 1.0 or less AND discrete frequency 0.45 or less at any frequency?

Is all pass vibration greater than 0.45 but 1.0 or less AND discrete frequency greater than 0.45 at any frequency?

Is all pass vibration greater than 1.0 AND discrete frequency less than 1.0?

Is all pass vibration greater than 1.0 AND discrete frequency greater than 1.0?

Determine cause through spectral analysis if investigation is needed

Verify conditions for oil change

Select the oil viscosity grade to use

Ensure the use of Roots synthetic oil of correct viscosity

Remove the oil overflow plug (21)

Fill the reservoir up to the overflow hole

Ensure the reservoir is not overfilled

Check ambient temperature and discharge temperature

Determine oil viscosity grade based on conditions

Use Roots synthetic oil of correct viscosity per Table 2

Remove the breather plug (25) and the oil overflow plug (21)

Fill the gearbox reservoir up to the overflow hole

Ensure the reservoir is not overfilled

Place the breather and the overflow plug back into their respective holes

Lubrication — For Units with grease lubricated drive end

Use specified NLGI #2 premium grade aluminium complex grease, Roots P/N T20019002

Ensure no lithium based grease is used

Ensure hydraulic pressure relief fittings are in place to vent excess grease

Check restriction plug and metering orifice to prevent loss of lubricant

Use a manual pressure gun to slowly force new lubricant into each drive end bearing housing

Ensure traces of clean grease come out of the relief fitting
