Ensure all lifting devices and supports are rated for the loads being hoisted.

Verify that no work is done under the machine while it is being hoisted.

Lift the main frame behind the axles using a safe lifting device and jack stands rated at a minimum of 5000 lbs. capacity.

Is the wheel and drum rotating freely?

Remove the adjusting hole cover from the adjusting slot on the bottom of the brake backing plate.

Rotate the star wheel of the adjuster assembly to expand the brake shoes until the wheel is very difficult to turn.

Position header over transport so that lower rest tube of transport is directly below the frame tube of header.

Remove header and make necessary adjustments vertically and laterally to the lower rest brackets.

Ensure rest brackets are positioned under the appropriate support structures

Is the header securely positioned before making adjustments?

Ensure no adjustments are made while the header is above or on the transport.

Measure drum wear for oversized condition

Is the drum surface excessively worn or scored?

Does the drum require re-machining?

Enter the maximum re-bore diameter after re-machining

Armature Surface Inspection and Re-facing

Is the armature surface scored or worn unevenly?

Raise upper rest tube using a lifting device

Reposition upper rest tube and reinsert pin and lock into position

Check alignment of arm holes with frame holes

Clean the thrust bearing between the front axle and the fifth wheel arm

Remove the front axle from the fifth wheel arm

Remove the thrust bearing for proper lubrication

Check all hardware for tightness
