Ensure all CPAP components are properly assembled

Unplug the Pumani BubbleCPAP device

Use a damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of the Pumani BubbleCPAP

Ensure compliance with cleaning protocols

Prepare the patient on the Pumani CPAP

Place the pulse oximeter probe on the patient

For smaller babies, wrap the probe around the palm of the baby’s hand

For larger babies, place the finger probe on the patient’s finger

Watch the waveform for 1-2 minutes until it is constant

Prepare for Respiratory Rate Measurement

Ensure the patient is settled on the Pumani CPAP

Uncover the patient’s abdomen to view the chest

Press the respiratory rate timer to start the 60-second count

Count the patient’s breaths during the 60-second period

Continue counting after the first beep at 30 seconds

Stop counting after the timer beeps twice

Cover the prongs with your fingers and check if water in the bottle bubbles.

Remove fingers from prongs and check if bubbling stops.

Did the bubbling start and stop as expected?

If the bubbling does not start or stop, refer to page 41 and describe the actions taken.

Turn the Pumani CPAP off momentarily.
