Refer to HIGH ALTITUDE INSTALLATIONS section for input reduction procedure if elevation is above 2000 feet (610 m)

Ensure other gas consuming appliances are not operating during the procedure

Attach a pressure gauge or a manometer to the gauge port and record the manifold pressure

Refer to Table 5 for correct manifold pressure

Enter the time in seconds to burn one cubic foot of gas (T)

Enter the Btu’s per cubic foot of gas (H)

Shut off gas supply to the heater

Remove outer cover plate from lower side of heater jacket

Remove six hex head screws securing tank cleanout plate

Remove lime, scale, or sediment carefully to avoid damaging glass lining

Close cold water inlet valve serving heater

Open nearby hot water faucet to relieve pressure in the heater

Check the condition of the anode rods

Is the 1/8” (3mm) diameter core wire visible?

Do you need to replace the anode rods?

Obtain two new nipple collars, part no. 74060, if necessary

Lift the lever at the top of the valve several times until the valve seats properly and operates freely.

Check operation of other relief valves if present

Ensure water discharge is safe and does not cause water damage.

Avoid contact with hot water during the valve operation check.

Does the temperature and pressure relief valve discharge periodically or continuously?

Describe any issues observed during the valve operation check.

Enter the manifold gas pressure

Follow 'Pilot Burner' procedure under 'Preventive Maintenance'
