Print Head Cap Area Cleaning
Caution: Do not touch any circuit boards or any parts inside the printer besides those which need to be cleaned.
Always use new cleaning sticks, or dirt may be transferred into the printer.
Do not touch the tip of the cleaning stick. This may reduce the cleaning effect.
Touch a metal object before cleaning to discharge any static electricity.
Do not use an organic solvent such as alcohol to wipe the caps, as it may damage the print head.
Do not move the print head by hand. Doing so could damage the printer.
If paper is loaded in the printer, remove it.
On the LCD screen, select Maintenance > Cleaning the Maintenance Parts > Wiping around the Cap.
Open the printer covers.
Paper Feed Adjustment
Paper Feed Adjust: Adjust the paper feed if you are unable to resolve banding issues even after cleaning and aligning the print head.
Adjusting the Paper Feed Using the Product Control Panel
If your printouts are grainy or blurry, or you still see dark or light horizontal bands, you may need to adjust the paper feed using the product control panel.
1. Load roll paper or cut sheet paper in the printer.
Note: Load paper that is at least 13.3 inches wide by 21.9 inches long (338 mm × 558 mm).
2. Make sure the correct paper type is selected.
Note: If you are using commercially available paper, make sure you create the custom paper settings in advance.
3. Select Paper Setting > paper source > Print Adjustments > Paper Feed Adjust.
4. Select one of the following:
Print Head Cleaning
Print Head Cleaning: Clean the print head if you notice faint areas or gaps in your printouts.
Print Head Cleaning
If print quality has declined and the nozzle check pattern indicates clogged nozzles, you can clean the print head. Use the nozzle check pattern to determine which colors need cleaning. You can save ink by cleaning only selected colors (control panel only).
Note: You cannot clean the print head if an ink cartridge is expended, and may not be able to clean it when a cartridge is low. You must replace the cartridge first.
Your printer automatically checks the print head nozzles when the printer is turned on and before printing; and cleans them when it detects clogged nozzles. To change this setting, select General Settings > Printer Settings > Auto Cleaning.
Note: When Auto Cleaning is enabled, the nozzles are checked after head cleaning and, if clogging is detected, auto cleaning is performed. Depending on the status of the nozzles, this process can take up to 32 minutes.
Cleaning the Print Head Using the Product Control Panel
You can clean the print head using the control panel on your product.
1. Load roll or cut sheet paper in the printer.

Do not move the print head by hand. Doing so could damage the printer.
If paper is loaded in the printer, remove it.
On the LCD screen, select Maintenance > Cleaning the Maintenance Parts > Wiping the Print Head > Start.
The print head moves to the cleaning position.
Maintenance Box Replacement
Warning: Do not replace the maintenance box while printing, otherwise ink may leak.
Check the LCD screen to determine which maintenance box needs to be replaced.
Caution: Do not touch the chip on the side of the maintenance box or you may prevent normal operation and printing.
Note: Do not reuse a maintenance box you have removed from the printer and exposed to air for a long period of time. The box will not absorb any more ink.
Open the maintenance box cover.
Use the handle on the maintenance box to carefully pull it out of the product without tilting the box.
Warning: If ink gets on your skin, wash it thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. If ink gets into your mouth, spit it out and see a doctor right away.
Place the used maintenance box in the bag supplied with the new box and seal the bag.
Note: Do not tilt the maintenance box until the bag is firmly sealed, otherwise ink may leak.
