Print Head Cap Area Cleaning
Caution: Do not touch any circuit boards or any parts inside the printer besides those which need to be cleaned.
Always use new cleaning sticks, or dirt may be transferred into the printer.
Do not touch the tip of the cleaning stick. This may reduce the cleaning effect.
Touch a metal object before cleaning to discharge any static electricity.
Do not use an organic solvent such as alcohol to wipe the caps, as it may damage the print head.
Do not move the print head by hand. Doing so could damage the printer.
If paper is loaded in the printer, remove it.
On the LCD screen, select Maintenance > Cleaning the Maintenance Parts > Wiping around the Cap.
Open the printer covers.
Print Head Cleaning
Print Head Cleaning: Clean the print head if you notice faint areas or gaps in your printouts.
Print Head Cleaning
If print quality has declined and the nozzle check pattern indicates clogged nozzles, you can clean the print head. Use the nozzle check pattern to determine which colors need cleaning. You can save ink by cleaning only selected colors (control panel only).
Note: You cannot clean the print head if an ink cartridge is expended, and may not be able to clean it when a cartridge is low. You must replace the cartridge first.
Your printer automatically checks the print head nozzles when the printer is turned on and before printing; and cleans them when it detects clogged nozzles. To change this setting, select General Settings > Printer Settings > Auto Cleaning.
Note: When Auto Cleaning is enabled, the nozzles are checked after head cleaning and, if clogging is detected, auto cleaning is performed. Depending on the status of the nozzles, this process can take up to 32 minutes.
Cleaning the Print Head Using the Product Control Panel
You can clean the print head using the control panel on your product.
1. Load roll or cut sheet paper in the printer.
Print Head Alignment
Ruled Line Alignment: Adjust the position of the print head if your printouts are grainy or out of focus.
Ruled Line Alignment
If your printouts become grainy or blurry, you notice misalignment of vertical lines, or you see dark or light horizontal bands, you may need to align the print head.
Before you align the print head, note the following:
• Alignment varies depending on the loaded media. Align the print head using the media on which you want to print and select the paper type that matches the paper in the printer. When adjusting using non-Epson paper, make sure you register the custom paper in advance.
• Run a nozzle check before you align the print head. If there are any gaps in the nozzle check pattern, clean the print head.
• Manually align the print head on any transparent or colored paper or on these paper types: Plain paper, Epson Enhanced Matte Poster Board.
• Make sure no direct sunlight enters the printer, or the alignment pattern may not be read correctly.

Ink and Maintenance Box Status Check
Check Ink and Maintenance Box Status
Your product and its software will let you know when an ink cartridge or ink supply unit (ink pack) is low or expended, or when a maintenance box needs to be replaced.
Checking Ink and Maintenance Box Status on the LCD Screen
You can check the status of the ink cartridges or ink packs and maintenance boxes from the product control panel. If the caution icon appears on an ink color or a maintenance box, you need to replace it soon.
1. Press the home button, if necessary.
2. Check the ink color icons at the bottom of the home screen.
Note: The displayed ink and maintenance box levels are approximate.
Note: The appearance of the screen may differ from the one shown, depending on your model.
