Warning: Only qualified service personnel should perform this maintenance.

Ensure that the engine can not be started while this maintenance is being performed.

Hot engine components can cause burns. Allow additional time for the engine to cool before measuring/adjusting valve lash clearance.

Ensure that the engine is stopped before measuring the valve lash.

Did you use a designated pump for coolant sampling?

Did you obtain coolant samples directly from the coolant sample port?

Did you place the sample in the mailing tube immediately after obtaining the sample?

Did you avoid collecting samples from expansion bottles and system drain?

Core cleaned with recommended concentration of cleaner?

Core back flushed with cleaner?

Core steam cleaned to remove residue?

Core washed with hot, soapy water and rinsed thoroughly?

Core dried with compressed air?

Core inspected for cleanliness and pressure tested?

Is the battery properly ventilated?

Is the battery cover removed before servicing?

Is the key start switch in the OFF position?

Is the battery charger turned OFF and disconnected?

Is the NEGATIVE “-” cable disconnected from the NEGATIVE “-” battery terminal?

Is the POSITIVE “+” cable disconnected from the POSITIVE “+” battery terminal?

Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!

Select the type of coolant used

NOTICE: Always use a designated pump for oil sampling, and use a separate designated pump for coolant sampling.

Note: Level 1 results may indicate a need for Level 2 Analysis.

Enter the recommended sampling interval

Supplies for collecting samples can be obtained from your Caterpillar dealer.

Use the following guidelines for proper sampling of the coolant:

Information on the label for the sampling bottle completed before taking the samples?

Unused sampling bottles stored in plastic bags?

Check the starting motor for proper operation.

Check the electrical connections and clean the electrical connections.

Inspect the turbocharger compressor housing (inlet side) for cleanliness.

Check the compressor wheel and the turbine wheel for contact with the turbocharger housing.

Check the compressor wheel for cleanliness.

Use a dial indicator to check the end clearance on the shaft.

Inspect the bore of the turbine housing for corrosion.
