Ensure the area around the drain valve is clear of obstructions.

Is the drain valve discharge outlet clear of personnel and equipment?

Open the drain valve and allow water to flow until it runs clean.

Close the drain valve securely after operation.

Check for any leaks around the drain valve after closing.

Describe any issues encountered during the operation.

Turn OFF electrical disconnect switch

Drain the heater following Draining instructions

Remove the banks and gaskets from the openings

Turn OFF the electrical disconnect switch

Close the cold water inlet valve to heater

Open a nearby hot water faucet to vent the system

If the heater is being drained for an extended shutdown, leave the drain valve open during this period

Describe any signs of leakage or corrosion observed

Check water conditions that may affect anode rod depletion

Is the water heater installed with adequate drainage?

Has the anode rod been inspected within the last 3 years?

Does the water heater use artificially softened water?

Ensure no one is in front of or around the outlet of the temperature-pressure relief valve discharge line.

Verify that the discharge pipe terminates at an adequate drain.

Manually operate the temperature-pressure relief valve.

Did the valve reset completely after manual operation?

Is the valve continuing to release water after manual operation?

If the valve continues to release water, close the cold water inlet to the water heater.
