Alfa Laval Spiral Heat Exchanger SHE Medium IIS/YIS

Examine channels for the following issues

Is an optical device needed for inspection due to large channel width and small spacings?

Is there any massive corrosion or erosion evident?

Is there any mechanical damage suspected?

Describe any detected issues or abnormalities

Contact Alfa Laval for advice if massive corrosion, erosion, or mechanical damage is detected

Retighten hookbolt assemblies in a diagonally opposite sequence

Is the cooler media admitted to the SHE first?

Is the fluid nearest ambient temperature admitted first if media are below ambient temperature?

Were pumps started against closed valves?

Is all pipework and the SHE filled before opening the valves fully?

Ensure complete reassembly of the SHE before testing

Decide if testing one side of the unit before assembling the cover(s) on the other side is desired

If testing one side, ensure the exposed face of the SHE body is held down by a rigid beam or other device

Verify that the beam is held down by the hookbolts with a weld bead as shown in the diagram

Confirm the maximum test pressure is 1.5 times the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP)

Consult Alfa Laval if hydrostatic testing is not practical and air testing is considered

Select the cleaning method used

Ensure pipework is provided with valved branches for cleaning agents circulation

Are the cleaning agents compatible with the materials of construction?

Use proprietary cleaning agents according to manufacturers' instructions

Provide specific cleaning instructions if detailed fouling/scaling information and unit serial number are available

Flush the unit completely of all cleaning agents

Is the unit drained if not put back into operation immediately?

Verify cover placement and orientation

Ensure gasket and cover compatibility

Select appropriate gasket material

Apply hookbolts and finger-tighten

Tighten hookbolts diagonally using recommended torque

Enter the actual working pressure (psig)

Calculate and enter the torque based on actual working pressure
