Retighten hookbolt assemblies in a diagonally opposite sequence

Record the torque values used for retightening

Select the media to be admitted first

Was the start-up carried out smoothly and slowly?

Ensure pumps are started against closed valves

Are all pipework and the SHE filled before opening the valves fully?

Examine channels for the following issues

Is an optical device needed for inspection?

Is there any massive corrosion or erosion evident?

Is there any mechanical damage suspected?

Describe any fouling observed, especially in vertical units

Contact Alfa Laval if massive corrosion, erosion, or mechanical damage is evident or suspected

Ensure the following before opening a Type I or III unit

Disassemble hookbolts and remove covers

Dismantle the flanged joint for the cooling water outlet on Type IIIV upper cover

Check for damage when removing residual gasket material

Securely hold the unit in place to prevent swinging

Securely fasten hinged covers at piping connections and mounting brackets before opening

Verify cover placement and orientation

Ensure gasket material compatibility

Place gasket and cover in position

Apply and finger-tighten hookbolts

Tighten hookbolts diagonally using recommended torque

Enter the actual working pressure

Calculate torque using formula: Torque @ 125 psig x (Actual Work Pressure / 125 PSIG)

Select the cleaning method used

Ensure pipework is provided with valved branches for cleaning agents circulation

Are the cleaning agents compatible with the materials of construction?

Use proprietary cleaning agents according to manufacturers' instructions

Provide specific cleaning instructions if detailed information on fouling/scaling and unit serial number is available

Flush the unit completely of all cleaning agents

Is the unit drained if not put back into operation immediately?
