Alfa Laval Spiral Heat Exchanger SHE Cond 8L

Ensure complete reassembly of the SHE before testing

Decide if testing one side of the unit before assembling the cover(s) on the other side is desired

If testing one side, ensure the exposed face of the SHE body is held down by a rigid beam or other device

Verify that the beam is held down by the hookbolts with a weld bead as shown in the diagram

Ensure maximum test pressure is 1.5 times the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP)

Consult Alfa Laval if hydrostatic testing is not practical and air testing is considered

Verify cover placement and orientation

Ensure gasket material suitability

Place gasket and cover in position

Apply and finger-tighten hookbolts

Tighten hookbolts diagonally using recommended torque

Enter the actual working pressure (psig)

Calculate and enter the torque based on actual working pressure

Allow medium with inlet temperature nearest ambient to circulate after other medium is turned off

Reduce all flow rates slowly to avoid hydraulic and thermal shock

Ensure units with fluids having normal boiling point below ambient temperature do not attain ambient temperature while containing fluid against closed valves

Arrange working fluid pipework system for continuous venting

Is the shut-down period short and the SHE not to be opened?

Does leaving the SHE full of stationary liquid involve a risk for corrosion?

Flush, clean, and drain the unit if there is a risk for corrosion

Is there a risk for freezing or is the unit to be opened?

Ensure compatibility of cleaning agents with materials of construction

Use proprietary cleaning agents according to manufacturers' instructions

Flush the unit completely of all cleaning agents

Drain the unit if not put back into operation immediately

Retighten hookbolt assemblies in a diagonally opposite sequence

Is the cooler media admitted to the SHE first?

Is the fluid nearest ambient temperature admitted first if media are below ambient temperature?

Were pumps started against closed valves?

Is the pipework and SHE filled before opening the valves fully?
