Ensure safety before opening the unit

Disassemble hookbolts and remove covers

Dismantle flanged joint for cooling water outlet on Type IIIV

Check for damage when removing residual gasket material

Securely hold unit in place to prevent swinging

Securely fasten hinged covers at piping connections and mounting brackets

Ensure compatibility of cleaning agents with materials

Use proprietary cleaning agents as per manufacturers' instructions

Flush the unit completely of all cleaning agents

Drain the unit if not put back into operation immediately

Ensure all parts are in place before testing

Secure the exposed face of the SHE body with a rigid beam or device

Is the beam held down by the hookbolts with a weld bead?

Enter the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP)

Enter the hydrostatic test pressure (should be 1.5 times MAWP)

Is the hydrostatic test pressure within the acceptable range?

Check for any distortion or damage to the SHE body after testing

Consult Alfa Laval if hydrostatic testing is not practical and air testing is considered

Allow medium with inlet temperature nearest ambient to circulate after other medium is turned off

Reduce all flow rates slowly to avoid hydraulic and thermal shock

Ensure units with fluids having normal boiling point below ambient are not allowed to attain ambient temperature while containing fluid against closed valves

Arrange working fluid pipework system for continuous venting

Determine action if shut-down period is short and SHE is not to be opened

Determine action if risk of freezing exists or if unit is to be opened

Drain, flush, and redrain unit if returning to manufacturer for inspection, cleaning, or repair

Verify cover placement and orientation

Ensure gasket and cover compatibility

Apply hookbolts and finger-tighten

Tighten hookbolts diagonally using recommended torques

Enter the actual working pressure (psig)

Calculate and enter the torque based on actual working pressure
