Warning: This maintenance check requires trained personnel with PPE!

Is the printer's performance, print quality or media handling significantly poorer?

If not, stop the procedure. If yes, proceed with the following steps.

Are there any contaminants on the platen roller?

If yes, clean immediately. If not, stop the procedure.

Did you open the cover and remove media from platen area?

Did you pull the platen bearing latch release tabs on the right and left sides towards the front of the printer and rotate them up?

Did you lift the platen out of the printer’s bottom frame?

IMPORTANT: The cutter blade mechanism does not require maintenance cleaning. DO NOT clean the blade. This blade has a special coating to resist adhesives and wear.

CUT WARNING: There are no operator serviceable parts in the cutter unit. Never remove the cutter cover (bezel). Never attempt to insert objects or fingers in to the cutter mechanism.

NOTE: Using unapproved tools, cotton swabs, solvents (including alcohol), etc. all may damage or shorten the cutter’s usable life or cause the cutter to jam.

Wipe the ridges and the plastic surfaces of the media entry (inside) and exit slot (outside) of the cutter. Clean inside the areas outlined in blue.

Repeat as necessary to remove any adhesive or contaminate residue after it dries.

Sign off on the cutter option cleaning

HOT SURFACE CAUTION: The printhead becomes hot while printing. Avoid touching the printhead. Only use the cleaning pen.

ESD CAUTION: Discharge of electrostatic energy can damage the printhead and other electronic components. Observe static-safe procedures.

Printhead cleaned when new media loaded?

Cleaning pen rubbed across the dark area of the printhead from the middle to the outside?

Waited one minute before closing the printer to allow components to dry?

Sign off on the printhead cleaning

Warning: Use a can of compressed air. Do not use an air compressor to remove dust.

Clean the Movable Sensor’s window. Gently brush away dust or use a can of compressed air; if necessary, use a dry swab to brush away dust. If adhesives or other contaminants remain, use an alcohol moistened swab to break it up.

Use a dry swab to remove any residue that may be left from the first cleaning.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 as required until all residue and streaks are removed from the sensor.

Sign off on the sensor cleaning

Open the door and clean the peel bar, inner surfaces and ridges on the door

Wipe the roller while rotating it. Discard the swab or cloth. Clean again to remove diluted residue

Clean the sensor window. The window should be clear of streaks and residue
