Printhead Cleaning
CAUTION—PRODUCT DAMAGE: Used cleaning pens carry contaminants from previous uses. These contaminants may damage the printhead.
CAUTION—HOT SURFACE: The printhead becomes hot while printing. To protect from damaging the printhead and risk of personal injury, avoid touching the printhead. Use only the cleaning pen to perform maintenance.
Allow the printhead to cool for a minute
Use a new cleaning pen to swab the dark line on the printhead cleaning from the center to the outside edges of the printhead
Always use a new cleaning pen on the printhead
Clean the printhead each time you load new media
Rub the cleaning pen across the dark area of the printhead. Clean from the middle to the outside
Wait one minute for the printhead to dry before closing the printer

Media Path Cleaning
Warning: Use 90% medical-grade alcohol and a fiber-free cleaning swab for cleaning.
Cleaned with alcohol and let it dry completely?
Used cleaning swab to remove debris, dust, or crust from holders, guides, and media path surfaces?
Used alcohol in the cleaning swab to soak the debris to break up the adhesive?
Wiped the ridges to remove accumulated debris?
Wiped the inside edges of both edge guides to remove any built-up residue?
Waited one minute before closing the printer?
Discarded the cleaning swab after use?

Printhead Replacement
CAUTION—HOT SURFACE: The printhead becomes hot while printing. To protect from damaging the printhead and risk of personal injury, avoid touching the printhead. Use only the cleaning pen to perform maintenance.
CAUTION—ESD: Prepare your work area by protecting against static discharge. Your work area must be static-safe and include a properly grounded, conductive, cushioned mat to hold the printer and a conductive wrist strap you can wear.
Is the printer power OFF and the power cord unplugged from the printer?
If you have ribbon loaded, is the ribbon removed?
Is the ribbon guide removed using a small flat-bladed screwdriver?
Is the release tab pressed, first on the right side and then on the left side of the printhead?
Are the connectors of the two printhead cable bundles pulled off the printhead?
Is the green ground wire pulled off the printhead?
Is the left-side printhead connector pushed into the printhead?
Sensor Cleaning
Warning: Do NOT use an air compressor to clean the sensor. Oil from the pump and dirty water will contaminate the printer and printhead.
Gently brushed away dust
Used a dry swab for the brushing if necessary
Used an alcohol moistened swab to break up adhesives or other contaminants
Gently brushed the sensor surface or used a can of compressed air to blow dust off the sensor
Used a dry swab to remove any residue that may remain after the first cleaning
Repeated steps 1 and 2 as required until all residue and streaks are removed from the sensor
Sign off on the sensor cleaning
Platen Maintenance
The standard platen (drive roller) normally does not require cleaning. Paper and liner dust can accumulate without affecting print operations. Contaminates on the platen roller can damage the printhead or cause the media to slip or stick when printing. Adhesive, dirt, general dust, oils, and other contaminants should be cleaned immediately off the platen.
Clean the platen (and media path) whenever the printer has significantly poorer performance, print quality, or media handling. The platen is the print surface and drive roller for your media. If sticking or jamming continues even after cleaning, you must replace the platen.
The platen can be cleaned with a fiber-free swab (such as a Texpad swab) or a lint-free, clean, damp cloth very lightly moistened with medical-grade alcohol (99% pure medical grade).
1. Open the cover (and dispenser door). Remove media from the platen area.
2. Press the platen-release tabs on the right and left sides out, then rotate them up.
3. Lift the platen out of the printer’s bottom frame.
4. Clean the platen with a clean swab moistened with 99% pure medical-grade alcohol. Clean from the center out. Repeat this process until all of the roller surfaces have been cleaned. If there has been heavy adhesive build-up or a label jam, repeat with a new, similarly-moistened swab to remove residual contaminants.
Adhesives and oils, for example, could be thinned by the initial cleaning but not completely removed.
5. Install the platen in the printer. Discard the cleaning swabs after use. Reusing them tends to contaminate previously-cleaned surfaces.
