Place the other end of the hose in a bucket or drain

Attach a garden hose to the drain valve on the water heater

Is the sound level of the appliance normal?

Temperature Pressure Relief Valve Inspection

Lift and release the lever handle on the temperature pressure relief valve

Flush several gallons through the discharge line to an open drain

Describe any issues found during inspection

Turn off the power to the water heater

Ensure the anode rod is securely in place after inspection or replacement.
