Verify travel function is smooth and responsive through full range of acceleration.
Check the weight stamped on the battery in the lift truck against the minimum and maximum allowable weights on the specification tag for the lift truck.
Check for voltage leaks to frame.
Inspect all battery connectors and leads for damage and cuts in protective coatings.
Make sure the battery gates are in place and not damaged.
Inspect the battery cables to make sure they are not frayed or loose.
Make sure there is no foreign material inside the connector.
Make sure the filler plugs are tight and the vent holes in the filler plugs are not plugged.
Keep the top of the battery clean and dry.

Drive Units
Run the truck for a few minutes to warm the fluid.
Clean the area around the fluid fill and drain plugs.
Place a suitable container below the drain plug.
Remove both the fill and the drain plugs. Allow the fluid to drain out completely.
Clean any ferrous residue from the magnetic drain plug. Replace the drain plug, torquing to 16 ft. lb. (22 Nm).
Use a flexible hose with either a syringe or a funnel to add new fluid (type ATF II D or equivalent) through the fill plug hole until it starts overflowing (approx. 0.75 pints, 0.35 liter).
Install the fill plug. Torque to 16 ft. lb. (22 Nm).
Clean the area around the fluid fill and drain plugs.
Chassis Replacement
Warning: Counterweights are very heavy. Make sure the lifting device used is capable of handling the weight.
Is the lift truck parked on a level surface and the parking brake engaged?
Is the mast tilted back?
Is the key switch OFF and the battery connector disconnected?
Is the battery removed?
Is the rear compartment cover removed?
Is the harness to the rear lights disconnected?
Is the appropriate lifting equipment positioned on the counterweight?
Is a counterweight removal tool installed or a sling passed through the center cavity of the counterweight?
