1 Monthly Bearing Housing Oil Level Check
Bearing Housing Oil Level Check
Check the oil level in the oil cup at shutdown.
Is the oil level in the oil cup adequate?
Fill to the proper level with SAE 30 (ISO 100) weight oil if necessary.
Start of New Operating Season
Operate the system until the oil is warm.
Drain the warm oil.
Refill with SAE 30 (ISO 100) weight oil.

Safety Precautions
Ensure mechanical equipment is inoperable during maintenance
Lock out electrical system disconnect switch
Use appropriate ladder adjacent to the tower
Wear protective clothing, gloves, and shoes
Belt Tension Check
Check that all the belts are in place
Measure the tension of each belt
Is the belt tension within the recommended range?
1 Monthly Electric Motor Maintenance
Motor Lubrication and Cleaning
Lubricate the motor according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Remove oil, dust, or scale deposits from the motor.
Clean and lubricate motor at the close of each operating season.
Operational Checks
Ensure there is no interference with the free rotation of the fan drive before starting the motor.
Run the motor for three hours to dry out windings and relubricate bearing surfaces.
Pre-Season Preparation
Ensure bearings are adequately lubricated before returning motor to service at the start of a new operating season.

Blowdown Inspection
Is the blowdown system discharging water continuously during operation?
Enter the current concentration level of dissolved solids in the water.
Enter the current blowdown rate (percent of total water flow rate).
Water Quality Management
Verify the concentration levels are within acceptable range (2-4 concentrations)
Is the water treatment company maintaining a relatively constant level of concentrations?
Chemical Treatment Precautions
Are water treatment chemicals being added outside the cold water basin?

Drain the entire system including cooling tower, system piping, and heat exchangers
Leave the basin drain open
Clean the cooling tower
