Lubricate the motor according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Remove oil, dust, or scale deposits from the motor.

Clean and lubricate motor at the close of each operating season.

Ensure there is no interference with the free rotation of the fan drive before starting the motor.

Run the motor for three hours to dry out windings and relubricate bearing surfaces.

Ensure bearings are adequately lubricated before returning motor to service at the start of a new operating season.

Wear proper personal protective equipment

Inspect for concentrations of dirt, scale, and algae

Clean the cooling tower thoroughly

Ensure mechanical equipment is inoperable during maintenance

Lock out electrical system disconnect switch

Use appropriate ladder adjacent to the tower

Wear protective clothing, gloves, and shoes

Inspect belt for signs of wear or damage

Is the belt tension within the specified range?

Check for continuous water discharge during operation

Record the concentration levels of dissolved solids

Enter the blowdown rate as a percentage of total water flow rate

Ensure water treatment chemicals are not added via the cold water basin

Inspect for bacterial growth and general operation conditions.

Is there any bacterial growth present?

Report bacterial growth to water treatment expert.

Component Inspection and Cleaning

Inspect and remove debris or scale from components

Replace any damaged or worn out components.

Flush louvers, drift eliminators, and fill surfaces with moderate-pressure water nozzle.
