Review guidelines for hoist chains

Verify compliance with regulations

Remove Old Chain and Components

Press the hold down (3) out using a screwdriver

Ensure the load chain is clean and free from debris

Is the load chain the original from the manufacturer?

Check the load chain for the following issues

Measure the nominal thickness at points of contact

Measure the elongation of a single chain link

Measure the elongation of an eleven-links piece of chain

Inspect hooks for deformation and cracks

Is the chain sprocket in the hook block worn by about 1 mm?

Measuring Wear and Replacing Load Hook

Measure length between chisel punch marks (dimension Y)

Refer to hook certificate for permissible values

Check condition of load hook components

Check if the load stops after approx. two chain braking link lengths when braking the nominal load during the lowering process.

Ensure the load stops in a jerking manner.

Lubricate the entire length of the load chain with penetrating gear lubricant oil before starting operation for the first time.

Lubricate the load chain during operation with no load.

Clean the links of the load chain before subsequent lubrication.

Select the type of dry-film lubricant to use when ambient influences are conducive to wear

Describe the frequency of use and operating conditions affecting lubrication needs.
