Confirm the sprockets are in good condition and teeth are not excessively worn.

Confirm the chain is free of grit and debris and is in good condition. Pins and bushings should not have flat surfaces and should release smoothly from each sprocket while in motion.

Verify all three sprockets are aligned in the same plane. The idler sprocket will determine the axial alignment plane.
