Instrument Cleaning and Battery Check

Clean the instrument thoroughly

Check the batteries for charge and replace if necessary

Remove batteries and clean battery contacts of any corrosion

Use a spanner wrench to unscrew battery contact insulators and expose internal contacts and battery springs

Remove the handle to facilitate access to contacts

Perform an operational check by exposing the detector to a known source

Confirm the proper reading on each scale

Allow the instrument to sit for 1 minute before accessing internal components

Clean the Model 3 with a damp cloth using only water as the wetting agent

Ensure the instrument is not immersed in any liquid during cleaning
