IEEE-488 Bus Calibration
Preparation
Ensure the CALIBRATION switch is in the ENABLED position
Set the instrument to the 20 range using the front panel controls
Connect a known accurate resistor (e.g., +1.90850 reference resistor) to the Model 580 test leads
Calibration Process
Enter the V command with the calibration value (e.g., V1.9085X)
Press the END LINE key after entering the V command to calibrate the instrument
Enter the LO command to store the calibration value
Press the END LINE key after entering the LO command to store the calibration
Front Panel Calibration
Pre-Calibration Checks
Is the CALIBRATION switch in the ENABLED position?
Is the instrument in DRIVE (_S-_), POL+, and line frequency set appropriately?
Connect calibration resistor to the Model 580 as shown in Figure 3-2.
Calibration Procedure
Press SHIFT and REL simultaneously and hold until 'CAL' appears in the numeric field of the display, then release.
Apply a known resistance to the first range to be calibrated and adjust the display to read the exact resistance value.
Calibrate the next range using the same method.
Lock in new calibration constants by pressing SHIFT and REL simultaneously until 'Stor' appears.
Line Fuse Replacement
Preparation
Unplug the line cord and remove all test leads from the Model 580 terminals
Remove the top cover as explained in paragraph 1.2
Fuse Replacement
Is the Model 5802 IEEE-488 Interface installed?
Remove the IEEE-488 Interface if installed
Replace the blown fuse with '/, A, 250V, 3AG, Slo-Blo (Keithley Part Number FU-20)
Note any persistent issues causing the fuse to blow
Reinstallation
Top Cover Removal
Preparation
Turn off power to the Model 580
Disconnect the line cord from the Model 580
Remove all test leads from the terminals of the Model 580
Remove test lead pouch
Top Cover Removal
Turn the unit over
Remove the four screws from the bottom of the case
Turn the unit over again
