3 Monthly Hoist Inspection
Warning: This inspection requires a designated or qualified person
Loose bolts, nuts, or rivets present
Worn, corroded, cracked, or distorted parts such as suspension bolts, mounting eye bolts, stirrup bolts, stiffening plate bolts, gears, pins, bearings, pins, rollers
Damage to hook block, hook, clevises, yokes, shafts, wire rope and wire rope attachments
Damage to hook retaining nuts or collars and pins, and welds or rivets used to secure the retaining members
Worn or damaged rope-drum, rope guide and pulleys (sheaves)
Damage to end connections of wire rope
Damage or excessive wear of load and idler sheaves
Excessive wear on hoist or trolley motor parts
1 Daily Hoist Inspection
Warning: This inspection requires a designated or qualified person.
Initial Inspection
New, re-installed, altered, or modified hoists/trolleys inspected for compliance?
Frequent Inspection
All functional operating mechanisms checked for maladjustment and unusual sounds?
Hoist and trolley checked in accordance with ANSI/ASME B30.16?
All limit switches and associated components operational?
Upper limit devices checked in accordance with ANSI/ASME B30.16?
Hoist/trolley braking system operational?
Wire Rope Removal
Lubrication and Cleaning – Refer to Section 6-2.
WARNING: Be certain that the replacement wire rope is obtained from Harrington Hoists, Inc. and is the correct wire rope for the hoist.
WARNING: Twisting in the rope prejudices safety and service life. Remove any twists!
Is the hoist properly powered and operational?
Check for wear on mating parts, i.e. Drum, Sheaves, Hook Block Sheaves. Any wear found?
Is the Hook Block lowered to the lowest possible position without touching the floor or ground?
Is the Wire Rope Clamp (G) removed and the Wire Rope loosened until the Terminal Wedge (H) can be removed from the Anchorage Assembly (F)?
Is the Wire Rope removed (unreeved) from the Bottom Block and all Sheaves?
Is the rope guide removed?
Hoist Motor Brake Check
DANGER: Before proceeding, ensure that the electrical supply for the hoist or trolley has been de-energized (disconnected). Lock out and tag out in accordance with ANSI Z244.1 “Personnel Protection –Lockout/Tagout of Energy Sources”. The hoist must be unloaded and the bottom hook block set down.
Fan cover removed
Plug removed
Measure air gap with feeler gauge
Feeler gauge pushed in at least as far as depth 'a' and does not catch on shoulder
Air gap within max. permissible limit
Brake disc needs replacement
Sign off on the hoist motor brake check
Trolley Brake Rotor Replacement
Warning: Check your motor brake at regular intervals to keep your hoist in optimum condition and prevent possible down time.
DANGER: Before proceeding, ensure that the electrical supply for the hoist or trolley has been de-energized (disconnected). Lock out and tag out in accordance with ANSI Z244.1 “Personnel Protection –Lockout/Tagout of Energy Sources”.
Fan cover removed
Fan wheel pulled off and feather key removed
Brake disconnected
Fixing screws unscrewed
Magnet piece and armature disc removed
Brake disc (brake rotor) removed
Sign off on the brake rotor replacement
