Impeller Clearance Inspection

Installation — Impeller Adjustment

Ensure the following parts are disconnected or loosened

Lightly tap shaft (#1) until impeller bottoms on the intake flange

Check mark

Tighten three adjusting screws by hand until they touch ball bearing housing

Check mark

Tighten three adjusting screws just up to the point where the shaft turns freely; then tighten each screw an additional ¼ turn

Secure the following components

Rotate coupling by hand to ensure impeller does not rub intake flange

Check mark

If impeller rubs, repeat steps 1 through 8

Ball Bearing Temperature Inspection

Measure the temperature of the ball bearings using a pyrometer

Is the temperature of the ball bearings below 225°F?

Apply mounting force against the ring being press-fitted

Avoid forcing the bearing onto a shaft by pressure or hammer blows

Use an arbor press with a face block contacting only the bearing inner ring

Check mark

Ensure the shaft is pressed through the bearing until seated firmly against the shaft shoulder

Check mark

Support the shaft beneath the arbor press table if not too long

Check mark

Use clean, square-ended soft metal tubing for pressing

Check mark

Ensure the shaft is aligned with the arbor press ram
