Heater Fuse Link Check
WARNING: Disconnect ALL power before servicing.
Heater element assembly removed to expose fuse link
Continuity test across the fuse link performed with an ohmmeter
Fuse link is not open
Reason for fuse link failure
Sign off on the heater fuse link check
Expansion Valve Operation Check
Warning: This procedure should be performed by trained personnel only.
Remote bulb of the expansion valve removed from the suction line
System started and bulb cooled in a container of ice water
Suction pressure after cooling the bulb
Suction temperature after cooling the bulb
Bulb warmed in hand
Suction pressure after warming the bulb
Suction temperature after warming the bulb
Result of the operation check
Reversing Valve / Solenoid Check
Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!
Reversing valve stuck in mid-position?
Measure the suction line temperature through the reversing valve
Operation of the valve changes from COOLING to HEATING cycle?
Measure the voltage at the valve coil terminals during COOLING cycle
Voltage registered at the coil terminals?
Operation of the thermostat checked?
Continuity of the connecting wiring from the “O” terminal of the thermostat to the unit checked?
Sign off on the Reversing Valve / Solenoid Check
Capacitor Check
Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!
Run capacitor wired across the auxiliary and main windings?
Measure the line current
Is the torque characteristics of the motor improved?
Is the line side of the capacitor marked with 'COM'?
Is the capacitor wired to the line side of the circuit?
Is the hard start kit approved by Amana® brand or Copeland?
Is the discharge check valve closing off high side pressure to the compressor after shut down?
Is the compressor equalizing through the scroll flanks?
Fan Relay Contact Check
WARNING: HIGH VOLTAGE! Disconnect ALL power before servicing or installing. Multiple power sources may be present. Failure to do so may cause property damage, personal injury or death.
Disconnect wire leads from terminals 2 and 4 of Fan Relay Cooling and 2 and 4, 5 and 6 of Fan Relay Heating.
Using an ohmmeter, test between 2 and 4 - should read open. Test between 5 and 6 - should read continuous.
WARNING: Line Voltage now present.
With power ON, energize the relays.
Using an ohmmeter, test between 2 and 4 - should read continuous . Test between 5 and 6 - should read open.
If not as above, replace the relay.
