1 Monthly Hoist Inspection
Warning: This inspection requires trained personnel with PPE!
Choose the type of service done
Note: The type of service to which the hoist is subjected can be classified as “Normal”, “Heavy” and “Severe”. Severe Service: is normal or heavy service with abnormal operating conditions.
Frequent Inspections: These inspections are visual examinations by the operator or other designated personnel. Records of such inspections are not required. The frequent inspections are to be performed monthly for normal service, weekly to monthly for heavy service, and daily to weekly for severe service and they should include those items listed in Table 1.
Brake for evidence of slippage.
Hooks for damage, cracks or excessive throat opening, latch engagement and latch operation.
Inspect load chain for adequate lubrication, signs of wear, damaged links or foreign matter.
Inspect reeving of the load chain to make sure it is proper.
WARNING: Any deficiencies are to be corrected before returning the hoist to service. Operating a hoist with worn or damaged parts or a malfunctioning hoist may result in serious personal injury to the operator, nearby personnel and/or property damage. Also, the external conditions may show the need for disassembly to permit a more detailed inspection which, in turn, may require the use of nondestructive type testing.

Load Chain Maintenance
Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!
Cleaned the load chain with a non-acid or non-caustic type solvent?
Inspected the chain link-by-link for nicks, gouges, twisted links and excessive wear or stretching?
Gaged the worn chain throughout its entire length?
Warning: Using other than a CM supplied load chain may cause the chain to jam and this, in turn may break the chain and allow the load to drop.
Used only Hoistaloy® load chain in the Cyclone Hand and Low Headroom Trolley Hoists?
Checked gage lengths as indicated in Figure 9?
Warning: Worn load chain may break suddenly without visual deformation.
Never used load chain for any other purposes such as slings or tow chains?
