WARNING: Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.
NOTICE: Mixing ELC with other products will reduce the effectiveness of the coolant. This could result in damage to cooling system components.
Note: This machine is shipped with Extended Life Coolant. Extended Life Coolant is recommended for use.

Engine Valve Lash - Check
Note: A qualified service person should perform the valve lash check and/or the valve lash adjustment. Special tools and training are required.
Refer to your machine's Service Manual for complete instructions.

Engine Crankcase Breather - Replace
Loosen the clamp (9) and remove the hose (10) from the connector (12)
Remove the setscrews (8) and remove the connector (12) from the cylinder head. Remove the gasket (13). Remove the O-ring seal (11) from the connector. Discard the gasket (13) and the O-ring seal (11)
Remove the cover (1) from the valve mechanism cover (5)
WARNING: Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure. Spring force will be released when covers are removed. Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
Remove the screws (2). Remove the plate (3)
Remove the diaphragm (4) and the cap (6). Remove the spring (7). Discard diaphragm (4)
WARNING: Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury. To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Install the spring (7), the cap (6), and a new diaphragm (4)
When Required Backhoe Loader Maintenance
Battery - Recycle
Always recycle a battery. Never discard a battery.
Always return used batteries to one of the following locations:
• A battery supplier
• An authorized battery collection facility
• Recycling facility
Battery or Battery Cable - Inspect/Replace
1. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position. Turn all switches to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the frame.

Cooling System Water Temperature Regulator - Clean/Replace
Thermostat replaced regularly to avoid unscheduled downtime and cooling system problems
Thermostat replaced after the cooling system has been cleaned
Cooling system coolant drained to a level that is below the thermostat housing when replacing the thermostat
Caterpillar engines incorporate a shunt design cooling system. It is mandatory to always operate the engine with a thermostat.
