Ordering parts for pressure relief valve

Provide model number and serial number

Specify pressure setting for springs

Ensure all pressure in the chamber has been vented through appropriate openings or connections.

Lock out or make non-operational the driving means (motor, turbine, engine, etc.).

Identify the liquid the pump has been handling and understand the necessary safety precautions.

Obtain and review the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the liquid.

Mark head and casing to ensure proper reassembly.

Remove nuts from head using jackscrews to back head away from casing.

Use a hoist or cribbing to support head during removal.

Identify the type of mechanical seal

For other seal types, refer to the Seal Installation Drawing (SID) or contact a Viking representative

Check alignment of the new seal

Test for leaks after installation

Ensure pump is not running and power is locked out

Loosen set screws and rotate bearing housing clockwise until it stops

Mark the outside diameter of the bearing housing and the bearing bracket

Rotate bearing housing counter clockwise past the mark by specified distance

Rotate the rotor shaft by hand to ensure it turns freely

Bracket and Bushing Installation

Install bracket bushing with groove at 12:00 o’clock position if applicable.

Install bracket and bushing assembly on the casing ensuring proper alignment with locating pin.

Coat rotor shaft assembly with light oil and insert into bracket bushing.

Coat idler pin with light oil and place idler and bushing on idler pin in head.

Head and Idler Assembly Installation

Install head and idler assembly on pump using a .010 to .015 inch thick head gasket.
