Mark valve and head before disassembly to ensure proper reassembly

Measure and record length of extension of adjusting screw

Loosen locknut and back out adjusting screw until spring pressure is released

Remove bonnet, spring guide, spring and poppet from valve body

Clean and inspect all parts for wear or damage

Ensure pressure in the chamber is completely vented

Lock out or make non-operational the driving means

Identify the liquid handled by the pump and obtain MSDS

Mark head and casing for proper reassembly

Remove nuts from head and use jackscrews to back head away from casing

Avoid damaging head gasket and prevent idler from falling

Remove head from pump using a hoist or cribbing

Ensure pump is not running and power is locked out

Loosen set screws and rotate bearing housing clockwise until it stops

Mark the outside diameter of the bearing housing and the bearing bracket

Rotate bearing housing counter clockwise past the mark by specified distance

Rotate the rotor shaft by hand to ensure it turns freely

Identify the type of mechanical seal

For other seal types, refer to the Seal Installation Drawing (SID) or contact a Viking representative

Check for leaks after installation
