Mark valve and head before disassembly to ensure proper reassembly

Measure and record length of extension of adjusting screw

Loosen locknut and back out adjusting screw until spring pressure is released

Remove bonnet, spring guide, spring and poppet from valve body

Clean and inspect all parts for wear or damage

Carefully remove valve cap, which covers adjusting screw.

Loosen locknut to unlock adjusting screw.

Install a pressure gauge in discharge line for actual adjusting operation.

Adjust the pressure by turning the adjusting screw.

Record the maximum pressure shown on the gauge with discharge line closed and pump running.

Ensure all pressure in the chamber is completely vented through appropriate openings or connections.

Lock out or make non-operational the driving means to prevent starting during maintenance.

Identify the liquid the pump has been handling and understand the necessary safety precautions.

Obtain and review the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the liquid.

Remove any circulation tubing connected to the seal gland.

Loosen setscrews on the seal collar to free the cartridge seal from the shaft.

Remove the two gland nuts and slide the cartridge seal out through the bearing housing opening.

Identify the type of mechanical seal

For other seal types, refer to the Seal Installation Drawing (SID) or contact a Viking representative

Is the new seal properly aligned and secured?

Inspect the seal for leaks after installation

Ensure pump is not running and power is locked out

Loosen set screws and rotate bearing housing clockwise until it stops

Mark the outside diameter of the bearing housing and the bearing bracket

Rotate bearing housing counter clockwise past the mark by 6.09 in. (155 mm) or 9.09 in. (231 mm)

Rotate the rotor shaft by hand to ensure it turns freely
