Viking Positive Displacement Pump AK4124B

Ensure you have multi-purpose grease, NLGI # 2

Verify compatibility of the grease with Viking's standard grease thickener types

Refer to Engineering Service Bulletin ESB-515 for grease compatibility

Apply external lubrication to all fittings

Was lubrication applied slowly with a hand gun?

Is the grease compatible with the grease used by Viking?

Ensure all safety measures are in place before opening the pump chamber

Removal of Component Mechanical Seal

Insert brass or plastic bar through port opening to keep shaft from turning

Bend up tang of lockwasher and remove locknut and lockwasher from shaft

Loosen set screws in the face of the bearing housing and remove the bearing housing assembly

Remove the pair of half round rings under the inner spacer collar from the shaft

Loosen nuts and remove seal holder, seal seat and seal gasket(s)

Loosen setscrews in mechanical seal rotary member

Select the oil type based on temperature conditions

Verify the oil quantity for each reducer size

Drain the old lubricant from the reducer

Refill the reducer with the new lubricant to the proper level

Is the oil level correct after refilling?

Ensure all safety measures are in place before starting

Removal: Cartridge Mechanical Seal

Insert brass or plastic bar through port opening to keep shaft from turning

Bend up tang of lockwasher and remove locknut and lockwasher from shaft

Loosen set screws in the face of the bearing housing and remove the bearing housing assembly

Remove the pair of half round rings under the inner spacer collar from the shaft

Remove any flush or barrier fluid tubes connected to the seal gland

Replace or turn centering clips to original position

Ensure pressure in the chamber is completely vented

Lock out or make non-operational the driving means

Obtain and understand the MSDS for the liquid handled by the pump

Mark head and casing before disassembly

Remove nuts and capscrews from head

Use jack bolts to back head away from casing

Avoid damaging head gasket during removal
