Warning: Run the engine a few minutes before changing the oil to warm it. Warm oil flows better and carries more contaminants.

Is the machine on a level surface?

Refer to Maintenance Safety (page 23)

Did you remove the dipstick by rotating the cap counterclockwise and pulling it out?

Did you tip the machine onto its side (so that the air filter is up) to drain the used oil from the oil-fill tube?

After draining the used oil, did you return the machine to the operating position?

Enter the amount of oil poured into the oil-fill tube

Wait 3 minutes for the oil to settle in the engine

Did you wipe the dipstick clean with a clean cloth?

Shut off the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop

Disconnect the wire from the spark plug

Place a rag under the oil filter to catch any oil that may leak out as you remove the filter

Use your finger to coat the gasket on the new filter with oil

Install the new filter until the gasket contacts the filter base, then hand tighten the filter an additional 2/3 turn

Fill the crankcase to the correct level on the dipstick with fresh oil

Warning: Ensure the engine is off and all moving parts have stopped.

Engine shut off and all moving parts stopped

Wire disconnected from the spark plug

Fuel filter removed from the fuel line

New fuel filter installed in the fuel line

Sign off on the fuel filter change

Warning: This procedure should be performed by trained personnel only.

Engine shut off and cooled down

Wire disconnected from the spark plug

Fuel line disconnected by loosening the tube clamp at the carburetor

Fuel-shutoff valve opened and fuel drained completely from the tank and fuel line into an approved fuel container

Fuel tank removed from the machine

Small amount of fuel poured in the fuel tank, moved around, and poured out into an approved fuel container

Fuel tank and the fuel line installed

Warning: Shut off the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop before starting the procedure

Is the engine shut off and all moving parts stopped?

Disconnect the wire from the spark plug

Is the wire disconnected from the spark plug?

Is the area around the spark plug clean?

Remove the spark plug from the cylinder head

Is the spark plug removed from the cylinder head?

Important: Replace a cracked, fouled, or dirty spark plug. Do not clean the electrodes because grit entering the cylinder can damage the engine.
