Vent plug inspection — standard units

Inspect vent plug for cleanliness and operation

Ensure vent plug is not blocked

Is the vent plug clean and operating properly?

Ensure both primary and secondary units are vented (for double reduction units)

Pressure compensating system inspection — Grove Gold units

Inspect the stem of the pressure compensating system for cleanliness and proper operation

Ensure the nut holding the stem is not loosened

Ensure the hole in the stem is not blocked

Is the power supply disconnected and locked out?

Tag the power supply to prevent unexpected application of power

Is the working area clear of hot oil and reducers?

Remove the worn seal without damaging the shaft surface or the seal bore

Drill a 0.062" diameter hole in the seal casing

Screw a #10 sheet metal screw into the hole and pry out the seal

Ensure power supply is disconnected

Lock out and tag power supply to prevent unexpected power application

Use extreme care when removing lubrication plugs and vents to avoid burns from hot oil and reducers

Oil Level Check — Standard Units

Frequently check the oil level of the reducer

Refer to the reducer vent and level position chart if oil level is low

Add proper lubrication through the filler plug until it comes out the oil level plug

Ensure power supply is disconnected and locked out

Tag power supply to prevent unexpected application of power

Use extreme care when removing lubrication plugs and vents to avoid burns

Oil Change Procedure — Synthetic Lubricated Units

Disconnect and lock out power supply

Allow unit to cool sufficiently to handle safely

Remove drain plug and drain all oil into a suitable container

Ensure power supply is disconnected

Lock out the power supply and tag it to prevent unexpected application of power
