Check manifold and inlet gas pressures

Is the installation location above 2000 feet (610 m)?

Attach a pressure gauge or a manometer to the gauge port.

Refer to Table 5 for correct manifold pressure and note it down.

Enter the time in seconds to burn one cubic foot of gas (T).

Enter the Btu’s per cubic foot of gas (H).

Calculate and enter the actual heater input (Btuh) using the formula: (3600 / T) X H.

Ensure the area around the valve is clear of obstructions.

Verify that the discharge area is safe and will not cause water damage.

Lift the lever at the top of the valve several times to ensure it seats properly and operates freely.

Check operation of other relief valves if present

Did the valve discharge water during the operation check?

Is the valve discharging periodically or continuously?

Unfasten two screws to burner cover and remove it

Locate the burner with pilot and remove screw holding burner to manifold

Unfasten pilot tubing from valve and slide out burner and pilot

Clean the orifice of the pilot burner

Turn off the manual gas control valve to the appliance

Ensure the appliance is completely powered off

Temperature Control Replacement

Check if the storage tank temperature control is out of calibration

Remove the old temperature control from the storage tank

Install the new temperature control in the storage tank

Is the new temperature control properly calibrated?
