Ignition and Flame Sense Electrode Inspection

Warning: Ensure the boiler is turned off and cooled down before starting the procedure

Ignition and flame sense electrodes removed from the boiler heat exchanger access cover

Upload a photo of the removed electrodes

Deposits removed from the ignition/flame sense electrode using sandpaper

Were the electrodes cleaned satisfactorily?

If the electrodes cannot be cleaned satisfactorily, replace with new ones

Ignition/flame sense electrode replaced

Is the gasket in good condition and correctly positioned?

Sign off on the Ignition and Flame Sense Electrode Inspection

Boiler Maintenance

Boiler Interior Inspection

Lift the top bezel and inspect the interior of the boiler

Vacuum any sediment from inside the boiler and components

Remove any obstructions

Expansion Tanks Inspection

Type of expansion tanks

Check if tanks provide space for water to move in and out as the heating system water expands or contracts

Boiler Water Test

Test boiler water

Flame Signal Check

Warning: This procedure should be performed by trained personnel only.

Enter the flame signal shown on the display

Is the flame signal at least 10 microamps?

If the flame signal is lower, it may indicate a fouled or damaged flame sense electrode.

Did cleaning the flame sense electrode improve the signal?

Is the ground wiring in good condition?

Is the ground continuity satisfactory?

If the above steps did not improve the signal, replace the flame sense electrode.

Refer to Section 3 - Troubleshooting in the FTXL Service Manual for other procedures to deal with low flame signal.

6 Monthly Boiler Piping Inspect

Warning: Eliminate all system or boiler leaks. Continual fresh makeup water will reduce boiler life. Minerals can build up in sections, reducing heat transfer, overheating heat exchanger, and causing heat exchanger failure. Leaking water may also cause severe property damage.

Inspect all water and gas piping and verify to be leak free

Look for signs of leaking lines and correct any problems found

Check gas line

Sign off on the boiler piping inspection
