Check the oil level on the JHPU Filler Cap/dipstick.

Is it necessary to top up the oil?

Top up with the correct grade oil if necessary.

Visually inspect the condition of the oil.

Is the oil discoloured, contaminated, or does it smell unusual?

Verify installation of backup indicators

Ensure steering will not exceed VDO sender mechanical limits

Move steering between full starboard and full port

Check that Sender mounting screws [A] are positioned centrally in their slots

Set the Link Rod [X] and sender arm [Y] to nominal dimensions as per assembly drawing

Measure the deflection of the belt with a 2.8 kg load

Does a 1.9 kg load cause a 3 mm deflection?

Can the belt be twisted beyond 90º at mid point?

Does the belt fail to rotate to 90º?

Re-tension the belt if necessary

Record any observations or actions taken

Visual Inspection of System Hoses

Inspect for signs of wear and chafing

Is reconditioning or repair necessary?

Describe the reconditioning or repair actions taken

Place a suitably sized container below the JHPU Tank Drain Plug.

Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to flow into the container.

Refit the drain plug and tighten.

Fill the JHPU to the Max mark on the dipstick with the correct grade of oil.

Discard the waste oil in accordance with current regulations.
