String Holder Replacement

WARNING: Do not perform maintenance on machinery unless electrical power and air are disconnected, locked out or cannot be turned on by any person other than the individual performing the maintenance.

Disconnect the power at the power switch and remove the power cord.

Remove the screws that secure the table to the machine and remove the table.

Check mark

Count the exposed threads on the spring tension bolt, typically 4 -5 threads are exposed.

Release the tension on the string holder return spring by loosening the adjustment nut.

Check mark

Unhook the spring from the string holder.

Check mark

Remove the two bolts which mount the string holder mounting bracket to the main frame casting.

Check mark

Remove the bracket.

Check mark

Remove the string holder and replace with new one.

Bodine Motor Brush Replacement

Warning: Wear safety glasses while performing this procedure.

Is the motor manufactured by Bodine?

Are the brush caps removed from each side of the motor?

Are the springs removed?

Check mark

Is the brush wire still connected to the brush box?

Measure the length of the brush from the point where the wire merges with the brush to the end of the brush that contacts the commutator inside the motor.

Is the total length of the brush less than 0.375 inch (9.5 mm)?

If new brushes are required, record the motor type and serial number from the motor nameplate.

Is the screw that holds the brush wire loosened by four turns?

Delivery Arm Break-Away Spring Tension Adjustment

WARNING: Do not perform maintenance on machinery unless electrical power and air are disconnected, locked out or cannot be turned on by any person other than the individual performing the maintenance.

CAUTION: The delivery arm break-away mechanism is designed to prevent injury and machine damage in the event that an object interferes with the movement of the delivery arm. The break-away force should always be adjusted to the lightest possible setting that will consistently tie product.

When tying product, if the delivery arm breaks loose before reaching the string holder or the knot tied is too loose, the Break-away Spring Tension needs to be adjusted.

Line Fuse Replacement

Check mark

Shut off the power at the power switch and remove the power cord from the input module

Check mark

Use a small flat head screwdriver to remove the fuse holder

Check mark

Replace fuse with the same size and rating of the fuse removed and insert fuse holder back into the input module

Note: The fuse holder has a spare fuse as it ships from the factory

Reconnect the electrical power cord and restore power to the machine and verify machine operation

4 Weekly Moderate Duty Lubrication

Refer to the lubrication photos for lubrication points for oil and grease. Most, but not all, of the lubrication points are highlighted on the machine with white paint. Lubricate the machine as presented in the Lubrication Schedule.
