Motor Brush Replacement

Identify the motor in the unit
Power turned off and power cable removed from the machine

Machine cycled and stop switch cam verified
NOTE: The stop switch cam assembly consists of the roll pin (Figure 69, Item 4) and the locking collar (Figure 69, Item 2).
Bodine Motor Brush Replacement
Warning: Wear safety glasses while performing this procedure.
Is the motor manufactured by Bodine?
Are the brush caps removed from each side of the motor?
Are the springs removed?
Is the brush wire still connected to the brush box?
Measure the length of the brush from the point where the wire merges with the brush to the end of the brush that contacts the commutator inside the motor.
Is the total length of the brush less than 0.375 inch (9.5 mm)?
If new brushes are required, record the motor type and serial number from the motor nameplate.
Is the screw that holds the brush wire loosened by four turns?
Knotter Plate Spring Adjustment
WARNING: Do not perform maintenance on machinery unless electrical power and air are disconnected, locked out or cannot be turned on by any person other than the individual performing the maintenance.
Disconnect the power at the power switch and remove the power cord.
Remove the screws that secure the table to the machine and remove the table.
Loosen the nylon lock nut to allow the brass nut to be adjusted.
Rotate the brass nut
CAUTION: When operating the machine, the operator should wear appropriate personal protective equipment including, but not limited to safety glasses. The operator should keep hands, any loose clothing or jewelry, and long hair clear of openings and moving parts at all times.
Turn the power back on and test the machine.
NOTE: If further adjustments are needed, make sure to shut off the electrical power and remove the power cord from the machine before continuing with the adjustment process.
Repeat the adjustment procedures as needed.
