Cummins HC Alternator HC434D

Turn off the anti-condensation heater (if fitted) and isolate from supply.

Remove the lower air inlet cover.

Remove the terminal box lid and side panel (left hand, viewed from NDE).

Disconnect the grease pipe (if fitted) from the bearing cartridge and the NDE bracket.

Use a 10 mm open spanner to disconnect the RTD sensor for bearing temperature (if fitted) from the bearing.

Measure air inlet temperature with alternator running

Check air flow rate and direction with alternator running

Check condition of air filter where fitted

Replace air filters where fitted

Inspect the fan for damaged vanes and cracks

Remove air filters from their frames

Inspect the condition of the bearings

Grease the re-greasable bearings

Record customer settings for bearing temperature sensors

Perform PI test for MV/HV windings

Test temperature sensors with alternator running

Record customer settings for temperature sensors

Coupling Arrangement Inspection

Remove the DE adapter screen and cover to access the coupling

Check the condition of the coupling discs

Replace the complete set of discs if any are damaged

Check tightness of bolts fixing the coupling discs to the engine flywheel

Tighten bolts in the sequence shown for alternator coupling in the Installation chapter
