Chain Cleaning and Visual Inspection
Clean chain for inspection
Examine chain visually for defects
Chain Wear and Elongation Check
Slacken chain and check bearing surfaces between links for wear
Measure and record length of unworn section of chain using vernier caliper
Measure and record length of worn section of chain using vernier caliper
Calculate and record the amount of wear by subtracting unworn measurement from worn measurement
Is the amount of wear greater than the allowable chain wear?

1 Weekly Air Hoist Coil Chain Lubrication
Preparation
Gather necessary materials: Bar and chain Oil (LUBRIPLATE or equal), oil solvent, penetrating oil, and graphite.
Ensure the hoist is not in operation and is safely secured.
Cleaning and Lubrication
Clean the chain with an oil solvent.
Lubricate the chain by coating it lightly with penetrating oil and graphite.
Ensure lubricant coats wear surfaces between links.
Inspection and Maintenance
Is the chain operating under hot and dirty conditions?
Air Hoist Lubrication
Lubrication of Control Shaft, Brake Cam, and Valve Shifter
Apply a few drops of S.A.E. 60 oil on control shaft at bearing points.
Apply graphite grease on valve shifter and on brake cam.
Inspection and Maintenance Frequency
Describe the type of hoisting service the hoist is subjected to.
Does the lubrication frequency coincide with preventive maintenance inspections?
Post-Lubrication Check
Check if all lubrication points are properly lubricated.
Is the hoist operating smoothly after lubrication?
Air Hoist Pre-Operational Check
Inspect Chain Anchor Connections
Ensure chain anchor connections are secure and intact
Verify anchor screw or pin is secure and not bent or broken
Confirm chain is solidly anchored
Check hoist brake for proper adjustment and operation

Verify hooks are not opened beyond correct opening sizes
Check hook latches for bends or damage
